Weird and Wacky school Fundraisers...

If you're in the market for a fundraiser and you are scouring the net for the next coolest thing, take a step back and regroup.

Weird and wacky doesn't sell.

I know how tempting it is to choose a fundraiser based on how unique and different it is.  It's just that the vast majority of the time, a fundraiser that is new, untested, unique or wacky has a far greater chance of failing than it does of succeeding.

We all know of that one school that does that one crazy thing that they've been doing for 30+ years with great results.  They have history.  History has the ability to change weird and wacky and make it tradition.  Even tradition can be criticized though and I recently ran across a group that plays donkey basketball with real donkeys.  Because it's cruel, it's criticized.  In this day and age, I just don't see the benefit of exposing a school to animal cruelty accusations.  Just doesn't seem worth it.

Proven.

There are fundraisers that are tried and true.  Proven and remarkable and consistent.  Find these.  They may seem like they are boring or not original but if you consider how much they make versus other fundraisers, you will quickly find that the weird and wacky really doesn't make sense.

Proven fundraisers will provide you a guestimate of what you are likely to make. Weird and wacky probably have no history to provide.

So, I'll leave you with that.  Weird and wacky and no idea if you'll hit your fundraising goal or conventional with a great possibility of hitting your goal.
