Well, it's minus 16 degrees in Colorado today. There's no school. Anyone who's out really is out because they have to be, not just that they want to be. I shoveled the driveway today very quickly and that was the extent of it.
It reminded me of something that I don't usually consider all that important - the elements. It's one of those things though, you really can't plan for or avoid.
As mother nature dictates, events in different parts of the country are negatively affected at different times. Many times, there is nothing that can be done. I have seen areas of the country shut down by large-scale natural disasters as well which brought their school fundraising efforts to a screeching halt.
Nothing good comes from school fundraising in the aftermath of a hurricane, flood or other natural disaster. There is just too much else going on to get the support needed for the school. When it comes to fundraising in general though, picking times of the year where the climate will be less extreme certainly makes sense.
So, in closing. There may not be a lot you can do if you're hosting your school fundraiser in bad weather but if you can, concentrate your efforts on times where you do not risk running into either bad weather or a lot of competing events.
